Ok, I've smoothed out the changes in the chapter after my revised first three, checked the whole MS for things like chapter length, flow, etc, revised my synopsis' ending and decided that I don't like the title anymore.
I originally had three titles for the three books that all went together:
Finding the Balance (they find the balance in their magic and can then defend themselves against the assassins),
Breaking the Fear (they break the fear keeping Mandora isolated so they can fight the greater threat - which no longer exists now),
Assuming the Power (Arienne returns home to be queen and they finally deal with this ominous greater threat, hand in hand with Mandora)
Now noe of that applies, except the first part, but the whole line "finding the balance" brings up more questions than I want to answer in the synopsis and query letter.
So what do we have for the book? Two girls evade several assassination attempts and learn to use their inherited magic while on the run to the safety of Mandora. Arienne falls in love with one of her guards along the way. In a showdown against the ringleader, the girls prevail, capture he bad guy and make it to Madora, but Arienne's love is killed in the process.
I read through some scenes, and there's a common theme of Arienne opening up. To Ryant, to her magic, to the world. Doesn't give me a title idea, though. There's also a strong theme of self-discovery.
So what kind of title should I be looking for?
Magic and Love and Self-Discovery. Opening up to Magic and Love. For Love and Magic. For Magic and Love. Discovering Magic? No, the literal meaning doesn't work. Mastering Magic. Mastery of Magic. Tackling Magic (would apply to both their self-discovery and defending themselves).
Going a different route, I've always thought of this is The Legacy of the Emerald Throne Trilogy. Of course, right now I'm using Legacy of the Emerald Throne as the title to their mom's book, the prequel. That could change.
Anyways, it could still be The Legacy of the Emerald Throne, with the books being some play on that. Legacy's Children? Magical Legacy. Legacy of Magic. Children of Magic. Child of Magic. Legacy, Heritage, Birthright.
Actually, if mom is the Legacy, they can be referred to as Legacy's Children. Maybe that would work as the series title. Still no title for the book, unless I used Legacy's Children or Legacy's Child.
Any thoughts? I'm drowning here...
